Kester Elementary / Magnet is a diverse learning community of over 1,000 students, teaching kindergarten through fifth grade. Our school, in District 3 of the Los Angeles Unified School District, is comprised of a home school and a gifted/high ability magnet school (grades 1-5). Emphasis on core academic subjects is enhanced by an enriched curriculum of art, music, and physical education.

Kester’s most recent Academic Performance Index (API) score was 913 out of a possible 1,000 - the highest API of all Sherman Oaks schools.

In 2014 the State Department of Education named Kester a Distinguished California School.

The Kester Avenue, LAUSD School Report Card 2015-2016 is based on a detailed survey of employees and students between grades 3-12. The  results of the district-wide survey inform  planning efforts.

The original buildings and grounds of Kester Avenue Elementary were designed in 1953 by the distinguished modernist architect Richard Neutra.

School office hours are 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday – Friday, when school is in session.
