Kester Avenue Elementary, in the heart of Sherman Oaks, is a diverse learning community of over 870 students, transitional kindergarten through fifth grade. Our school is comprised of a home school and a gifted/high ability magnet school (grades 1-5).
We emphasize the importance of learning in core academic subjects while also offering an enriched curriculum of art, music, science, and physical education. Kester’s most recent Academic Performance Index (API) score was 913 out of a possible 1,000 - the highest API of all Sherman Oaks schools.
Kester is proud to be designated both a National Blue Ribbon School and a California Distinguished School for its collaboration and parent involvement. At Kester Avenue Elementary / Magnet, students experience a unique variety of enrichment programs made possible by the Kester PTA and generous contributions from our school community.
The original buildings and grounds of Kester Avenue Elementary were designed in 1953 by Richard Neutra, one of the world's most prominent modernist architects. Designed in the International style, the blueprint of Kester served as the prototype for LAUSD schools constructed thereafter.
